Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2015 were about 7.3 million metric tons (Mt), up by 12.4 percent from the level in November 2014, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through November totaled 84.9 Mt, up by 3.4 percent from the same period in 2014.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these states accounted for 41 percent of the total shipments for the month. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 39 percent of the November shipments.
Clinker production totaled 6.8 Mt in November 2015, down slightly from the output in November 2014. Production for the year through November was 69.6 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing states in November were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, and these accounted for almost 47 percent of the national total for the month.
Masonry cement shipments of about 177,000 metric tons in November 2015 were up by 13.4 percent from those of November 2014. Shipments for the year through November were 2.2 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee; these received about 50 percent of November’s shipments.
